Meet the CORE Team
Filipe Marques
Filipe Marques, PhD, is a biomedical engineer with a PhD in Medical Technology Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. During his PhD, he was challenged to create a novel brush to increase the number of cells acquired from pancreatic cystic lesions during Endoscopic Ultrasound Fine-Needle Aspiration. This resulted in the Loop brush, a loop-shaped minimally-invasive medical brush capable of expanding from micrometer to centimeter size. Filipe is CEO of Lucky Loop Medical since May 2022 and is also a Research Engineer at KTH, working on the preparation/management of a pilot clinical trial assesing the safety profile of the loop brush.

Francisco Baldaque-Silva
Francisco Baldaque-Silva, M.D., PhD, is a gastroenterology specialist with a PhD from the Karolinska Institute. His work focuses on Barrett's esophagus, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). He has developed new endoscopic techniques, including transillumination for POEM and the yo-yo ESD traction technique, and was a pioneer in performing ESD on an outpatient basis. Francisco has contributed to the ESGE guidelines on Barrett's esophagus and the Swedish guidelines for upper gastrointestinal lesions, and he leads several prospective endoscopy studies. Currently, he is the Head of Gastroenterology and the Advanced Endoscopy Center at Pedro Hispano Hospital in Portugal, a Senior Consultant at Karolinska University Hospital, and a researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
